Performance 1.Maerz.26 BERLINISCHE GALERIE Hausmann/Schwitters
ENGLISH VERSION:
Dada x Merz | How Letters Became a Sonata
In the performance “Dada x Merz,” musician and performer Florian Kaplick (Edinburgh/Munich) traces the path of
an artistic transformation: How did the letters that Raoul Hausmann randomly had printed on posters in 1918
become sounds, and how did his friend, the Merz‑artist Kurt Schwitters, shape them into the legendary “Ursonate”?
Kaplick delves into this milestone of the sound avant‑garde.
It is a journey back to the origins of the Ursonate: to Prague, September 1921, where Hausmann and Schwitters
caused a sensation on stage. Florian Kaplick brings the creatively curious dialogue between Dada and Merz back
to life—between sound poetry, music, and action—with humor and bold explorations of vocal acoustics.
